WordPress IDX RETS

Adding MLS Listings to a WordPress Site from IDX or RETS sources.

Today we finally got the 2.0 version back for our latest WordPress plugin that ties in full listings management to your WordPress site without the need to install OpenRealty and a bridge. Although we have built several bridging and integration plugins capable of working with OpenRealty, the process for managing those solutions can become challenging to most website owners. What was needed was a full blown solution that didn’t require you to trick, modify or substantially alter the method by which you blog in order to achieve a truly clean MLS IDX or RETS integration solution. Our brand spanking new plug-in does just that. It fully integrates not only standard listing editor features but provides a way for bloggers to add IDX RETS listings to their sites.

The new plugin allows for you to turn your WordPress Real Estate site into a full blown MLS empowered solution unlike anything ever produced before. But its not just for IDX or RETS empowered sites either. Part of our plan in building this new version was to make sure it would work with a few types of sites we have built in the past in particular those not associated with Real Estate. Automotive sites, Virtual Magazines, Online Classifieds, even a sports and gun shop site have been successfully built using the beta version of this new application. Although a precursor to the much more advanced version scheduled for release March of 2010. There is no shortage of features in this release however; A super clean listing integration and unique characteristics guaranteed to make your WordPress site a powerful listings manager.

In the past versions we attempted to provide a rather complex bridging and integration tool for use with your install of OpenRealty. Problems mounted however as each successive update of OpenRealty usually breaks all previous versions to some degree. One bug fix in OpenRealty would present additional bugs that could break the sites structure. We have moved past that in our new plugin.

Free GNU/GPL Real Estate Listings Manager Plugin

Here is a quick summary of the features for your review pending the release this Tuesday.

  • Works fine with or without the All In One SEO Plugin, which was a requirement from the start.
  • Works with almost any modern WordPress theme including those from StudioPress and iThemes.
  • No need to bother with the installation of OpenRealty.
  • A more advanced user registration widget is included.
  • Powerful featured listings options allowing for you to put featured listings directly in posts throughout your site.
  • Designed to work with the WordPress Menu Creator.
  • Automatically generates title, meta and meta keywords based on user defined listings fields.
  • Full inline documentation
  • Contact / Client Tracking
  • CSV Export / Import
  • Export to Trulia, Google, Yahoo and other XML feeds.
  • Easily create contact forms that integrate well with the listings management features of the plugin.
  • The ONLY fully CSS/XHTML compliant output for listings data.
  • Google maps on search results.
  • Google maps on listing details pages.
  • Ajax integrated contact forms.
  • All features are template driven allowing for endless possibilities in design.
  • More to come….

With this plugin and your favorite theme, you will have the only true fully featured easy to manage listings manager available for WordPress. Although there are many real estate WordPress themes that have listings features in them, NONE of them have the potential to integrate IDX or RETS data effectively. Framing is an absolute waste of the effort and alternative methods using modified versions of the NextGen gallery are not only counter productive, but impossible to manage for any number of listings beyond a few dozen. Beautiful work Jared, I just responded to your post about the menu management and now you have me interested in this. Can I look at what you have got or download a BETA version? I would love to help out.

  2. Jared Ritchey September 27, 2009 8:55 am

Roger, it is available, If your email is correct when you posted a comment you should have received an invitation just now to look at what we have. I can’t publish the demo for everyone because we have some actual MLS data in there and the MLS rules state that we can’t make it public. Well what they actually say is that we use the demo data until they approve the method by which we display the data and once they approve it then they allow us to show it publicly.

Please be give me as much feedback as you can about the features, appearance, management and so on because this is BETA and I want it to be a nice first release.

Looking forward to this release – looks like a very promising plugin.

    OPEN REALTY NOT REQUIRED?
Hey Jared I thought you guys were die hard OpenRealty people. I see in your list that you say that open realty isn’t required for your new plugin. I admit you have me interested more than ever now. What changed?

  5. Jared Ritchey September 29, 2009 3:44 am

Tony I still support and use OpenRealty and will likely continue with the development of free code and addons. The change is largely the motive of money. We ended up with a person that found OpenRealty, joined their forum, read a few posts that offended him and he said enough and approached us with green colored motivation.

The only thing I know about his motive is that something annoyed him regarding people trying to have intelligent discussion regarding SEO or something. Eventually the_sandking had stated that he had never heard of WordPress and apparently spent a great deal of time editing anyone’s questions about it. I guess people still tend to concluded that the OR Forums look like anything but an open and friendly open source community. Oooh there’s a f***ing surprise!

I like OR, I have respect for Ryan, but that admin crew of his, ?????? good luck.

  6. [...] Its no secret how we are approaching this as we have written about it in blogs all around the web. The most important feature in WP Realty 3.0 is the database structure, the map and search features, and the template system. All of which is being built from the ground up based entirely on our already proven MLS IDX RETS database integration structure we use in many commercial real estate websites. Saying goodbye to OpenRealty in that regard is a breath of fresh air since all of the code is modern PHP built on object oriented coding fundamentals that truly robust applications follow. I’ll expand on this later naturally but for now, you can follow the project on http://www.wprealty.org and on my own blog at JaredRitchey IDX RETS WordPress [...]

This looks very promising. Is there a way that I can demo this?

  8. Jared Ritchey September 30, 2009 9:28 am

Yeah we just need today and part of tomorrow to finish up a few things. We broke the URL structure yet again after adding in a new feature so we are dealing with that, then an image feature setting and its ready for beta release.

  9. Brett Mackrell September 30, 2009 9:32 am

    Awesome. I can’t wait!

This looks real interesting, what will the interface look like? Can we edit the look of the listing pages or is that something in WordPress?

You say it will work with studiopress and i have studiopress themes and would love this to work with them.

  11. Jared Ritchey September 30, 2009 2:36 pm

Darren, the interface is the WordPress interface. As for the StudioPress themes, it works with any theme we have tested with only a few that have older code not working. It relies on a widgeted theme and the theme needs a minimum main content area of at least 660 pixels.

Google maps fails with some plugins, we tested with Next Gen Gallery, it broke a few features but its not a real issue because NextGen breaks every other plugin anyway so its not likely one I’ll suggest Realtors install. Don’t get me wrong, NextGen is a great plugin and I feel its super nice for most solutions, but if your blog is loaded with jquery type plugins you will encounter issues.

I’m interested in learning more about this solution. Would love to see a demo or further documentation on it.

  14. Jared Ritchey October 1, 2009 3:56 pm

Well it was supposed to be available today but courtesy of our QC guy, we had to change a few things, its looking more like the weekend than ever before.

    Jared

  15. Jared Ritchey October 1, 2009 3:57 pm

Yeah it is just days out, just had a few little updates and fixes necessary to tie up small lose ends.
You wont regret waiting for this.

    Hi Jared,

This is exactly what I have been looking for – a seamless integration of MLS IDX and WordPress. Look forward to the code release.

  17. Mike October 2, 2009 1:28 am

This is great news. I have a website I’m developing which I can share with you perhaps. Anyways, I’ve worked in the real estate/web design area for a while as part of my consulting so I’m very familiar with what they need and this is a crucial plugin. Definitely will be waiting.

  18. steve sorensen October 17, 2009 2:20 pm

Jared – I would like to find out more about your WPMU/IDX solution. Thanks, Steve

  19. Paul October 20, 2009 2:21 pm

This is exactly what I need… Is this ready for download? I went to http://www.wprealty.org and the site seems to be down. Where can I take a look at this plugin? Please let me know. Thanks.

  20. Renan February 8, 2010 12:14 pm

    Hi,

Is this working? Can you send it to me? Tell me all your requirements.

  21. Kenneth Henderson April 9, 2010 12:00 pm

This looks like the solution I have been looking for. I would like to get a download for this. Is it available?

    Thanks!

    Good afternoon,

I’m being asked to create a real estate site for a Canadian realty group. Do you know if this will work to integrate their Canadian MLS listings and searches?

If so, is there somewhere to download this and test it?

    Thanks, Elena

  23. Holly May 3, 2010 6:21 pm

Hi, I am interested in this plugin. Please email the details to me. Thanks.

  24. Jared Ritchey May 9, 2010 10:46 am

I honestly do not know but I can easily test for you if I have a sample data file. If you can send me one I’ll test it.

  25. Lance McDowell May 11, 2010 12:06 pm

I am currently shopping for a MLS-IDX/RETS/XML feed solution for my new WordPress Site at Lagravier.com.

Could I get more details about your plugin?

    Thanks,

Sounds great, can I take it for a spin?

  27. Jared Ritchey May 23, 2010 11:18 am

WPRealty.org is the place to look for it.

  28. Jared Ritchey May 23, 2010 11:18 am

Visit WPRealty.org and contact Chad Broussard.

  29. Lance McDowell May 23, 2010 11:40 am

wprealty.org??? Too bad. Those jerks charged me $100 and then gave me no support. And would NOT refund my money when I had to find another solution.

I am VERY displeased with them.

  30. Jared Ritchey May 27, 2010 3:12 pm

Yeah they have suffered substantially do to the support model lacking so much documentation. I’m thinking about drafting it myself in fact.

  31. Lance McDowell May 27, 2010 4:27 pm

    Cool,

If you put something together let me know. I would like to see what it can do. And I still own it because wprealty.org will not refund me.

It would be nice to salvage something from the $100 lost :)
