OpenRealty Guides AddonAgain, having been asked a lot about the status of this item, here is the BETA 3 Version of the Guides add-on for OpenRealty. This version has NO documentation and was briefly outlined in the following post as to what it was designed for and how to basically use it. http://www.jaredritchey.com/open-realty-tutorials-and-guides/

When you install this add-on it is important to note that the next pending release will feature an option for remote tutorials and the limitation here is the remote url feature that some servers do not support. When you update to the next version it will need to install a new table and folder structure will change. I had considered an alternative method using CURL but we ultimately settled on an RSS link method which seems to work best. If you check back later I’ll try and get that version posted so you can have access to the current inventory of FREE OpenRealty tutorials and guides.

    Hello,
I’m not setting up a realty site so will have to develop my own guides anyhow I’m sure, but I am setting up a Wordpress MU site and will be offering a free blog host basic package. Anticipating being overwhelmed with how to and tutorial type requests from time to time, I already plan to use your guides plugin.

My question is this; can I simply convert the existing how to’s and instruction material here,
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
into .pdf’s, then upload the guides in .pdf format into the individual files as you describe? Not sure the quickest manner to covert all of this from the html pages into something usable, but am thinking using a pdf printer function to convert will allow me to keep all the links in tact with the least amount of time and work for the tons of info I will eventually want to get posted for use.
Thanks in advance for an answer about the pdf usage, and ANY direction you might have beyond that.
    Best Regards,
    Stan

You can but you might want to wait until our update when its published, there have been substantial changes that will make adding, editing and including documentation much easier.

Thanks a ton for the quick response Jared. I’ll try to wait then. Finding plenty of foundation work to do before launching anyhow and really want to have at least some basic guides in place before launching so members start out accustomed to ‘help yourself’ suppport whenever possible. :o )
This is THE most rockin’ plugin available for mu imo, thanks for all you do!

Hello, the reason we built that addon was to provide a way for OpenRealty site owners a way to have documents and instructional guides available within the OR admin panel. Simply upload your files to the folders of your choice and they show on the admin panel. That version is going to be rewritten this weekend so you may want to check back.

    Hi Jared,
I’ve run into a hosting issue that is going to offer a little time for me to continue preparing my site for an official launch. After reading that you are going to complete updates to this plugin, I thought I’d ask if there is anything I might be able to do to be of help to you?
I’m a network engineer (well, I was for years) and only a self taught site developer/designer. My coding ’skills’ consist of hacking is all; copy and paste, looking up commands, using software tools like Dreamweaver, etc…
So, the best help I would probably be is some of the grunt work of doc preparation of some kind if you have a need for that. Maybe there are other tasks I could help with, you would know better.
Feel free to just contact me at my email address if you like, and thanks very much for sharing your skills this way!
    Stan

Stan, I’ll have the new version published and after it is, I’ll need help with some of the documentation. You can send me an email directly and I’ll send you more details.
